What this site does
This site is for people who own or manage property on the water from Perdido Bay to Fort Morgan and across the Eastern Shore. Each guide answers the questions owners ask first: what is wrong, what it may cost, which permits apply and who to call.
When you are ready, tell us what your bulkhead, seawall or dock needs and we will help you plan the next step. That can mean sorting out the right permit office, preparing questions for an assessment or reaching a local marine contractor.
- Start with the homeowner guides.
- Use the project planner to describe your wall.
- Check a contractor with the verification guide.
What the guides are built on
The guides rely on public records: Alabama statutes and agency rules, city and county codes, NOAA tide stations, FEMA flood data and public bid results. A few examples:
- Which office permits a parcel, based on Baldwin County's jurisdiction rules. Baldwin County permit jurisdiction
- How the state splits coastal permitting between ADEM and State Lands. ADEM coastal program
- How high storm water reached in Hurricane Sally. NHC Sally report
